From now on, we’ll be regularly posting these 5-MINUTE CZECH worksheets. They come in three colors – the green worksheets are for total beginners, and we’ll teach you some basic facts about Czech language and some “survival” phrases; the red worksheets are for intermediate students on at least A2 level; the blue worksheets are for advanced students, whose level is C1 and higher.

5-minute Czech – Beginner
Czech language has a formal and an informal version.
We use informal language with family members, friends and in an informal setting. We use formal language at work, in shops, in public offices ... If people want to stop using formal language and start using informal one, one of them (typically a woman or an older person) needs to ask „Můžeme si tykat?“ Can we start being informal?
Here are some useful formal and informal phrases:

Because formal language conveys respect for your partner, when you are not addressing another person, you don't distinguish.
